Responsible entrepreneurship

Responsible Business

SoLow makes everything more fun. That's our mission. We go all out for big moments but also like to contribute positively in smaller ways. Of course, we also think about the future, which is why SoLow works hard every day to make its product range, organization, and stores more sustainable. In small steps, and occasionally with a big leap, we develop ourselves. Below, we explain exactly how we do that.

At SoLow, we’ve divided our sustainability policy into three main categories: product range, stores & transport, and people. In all these areas, we aim to continuously improve. Read below to learn more about our goals and the steps we've already taken.

Product Range

Our product range is the most visible way we show our sustainability ambitions. The goals in this category include:

Reducing packaging materials: We opt for smaller packaging or eliminate it where possible.

Switching to more sustainable packaging: We are replacing plastic packaging with recyclable and more sustainable alternatives, such as paper envelopes.

Using recycled materials: Wherever possible, we switch to recycled plastic or natural materials like wood.

Reusable products: We replace disposable items with reusable alternatives. For example, we offer reusable banners and durable rain ponchos.

Focusing on reuse is not entirely new in our product range. One example: our ‘Orange Fever’ products are intentionally not dated. They don’t have prints of a specific event or year. This means the same product can be used for King’s Day, the European Football Championship, and the Hockey World Cup. The longer a product lasts and the more it’s used, the lower the total environmental impact.

Every year, we renew 1,500 articles (10% of our total range of 15,000 articles) and make them more sustainable according to these principles. We are currently developing a system to record specific goals and results in percentages.

Stores & Transport

We are working on making our stores and transport more sustainable. Our actions and goals are:

Optimizing transport: In 2023, 79% of our products were transported by sea and 21% by road to our distribution center.

LED lighting in all stores: Since 2020, new stores have been equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting. We aim to convert all our stores to full LED lighting by 2025.

Smart climate systems: Since 2023, our climate control systems only work when needed, even in our older stores. Our goal is to equip all stores with smart systems by 2024, which only operate during opening hours.

Green energy: Where we purchase energy ourselves, we use green power. In shopping centers where we cannot influence the energy supplier, we aim to influence through collaboration with landlords.

Organization

SoLow aims to provide a safe and enjoyable workplace, with room for growth and development. Our concrete actions include:

Training and development: We offer onboarding programs, first aid training, and courses on dealing with aggression and store crime.

Employee well-being: Since 2024, we conduct an annual employee satisfaction survey. This helps us identify areas for improvement and take actions to enhance job satisfaction.

Diversity and inclusion: Everyone is welcome at SoLow. We don’t have a standard application process – applying without a CV is possible with us, so we focus on the person instead of just their resume.

A More Fun Tomorrow

By continuously developing ourselves, step by step, in all aspects of sustainability, SoLow ensures that we can continue to enjoy life together without worries. And knowing that makes today just a little bit more fun, doesn’t it?
